ART DECO

Every year the little seaside town of Napier, New Zealand, holds a huge Art Deco Festival. Napier is known at the Art Deco Capital of the world. This town was completely destroyed in 1931 from an earthquake and subsequent fire. The town was rebuilt in the Art Deco style of that day, and stayed in the time-capsule that New Zealand creates, until a trust was set up to preserve and save the buildings. Now new buildings are made to fit the existing Art Deco charm of this unique place. The annual Art Deco weekend draws hundreds from around the world.

Credit goes to my best friend Tara for introducing me to all things Art Deco, including Napier. We attended the festival three times together. Scroll through each gallery to explore the costuming I put together for the event.

2015

2015 was especially fun as I was able to take my brother, and he was game enough to dress up. I sorted out a boater hat for him, and he brought an awesome Brooks Brother’s blazer. I think we gave him the sunnies as a Christmas present.
