BBC Sherlock BOOK, 2014

This project was very fulfilling – it came from the idea of making a kids board book but with content appealing to an adult. The format of the content was inspired by the board books series that takes classic literature and presents it in a compact format using one or two words per page or layout to express what is happening.

This is the full book – printed by Pint Sized Productions, which allows for custom printed board books. Again, due to honoring copyright, this a personal one-off print.

Below is a glimpse into my artistic process. It looks like a mess, but is actually very organized. Much of my planning looks like a bunch of scribbling. From this project, I’m very satisfied with the use of pattern and theme across the spreads. I also really like the swirling words, which are the titles of the episodes and Doyle’s short stories. This particular effect was created by handwriting on paper, scanning it into the computer, and inverting the black and white in Photoshop.
