Harry Potter’s 38th Birthday Party, 2018

This project was inspired after the month before seeing Harry Potter and The Cursed Child in London. The idea of Harry as an adult was interesting to explore, and I decided to hold a contemporary birthday party. The other reason this party happened was my 2018 initiative to have more “play,” time in my schedule – a place and excuse to more frequently use the right-side of my brain and do things, “just for fun.” This party was a great example of getting together, “just for fun.”

Party Invitation – Large bookmark format
These graphics from the 50s were bought as a scrapbook sheet of paper. I added Harry’s scar and glasses to each cut-out, and included one with each invitation.
Envelopes were decorated with homemade stickers printed from online-obtained images printed on clear sheets. Some invites were returned, and re-sent-out encased in a clear velum envelopes.

This party involved other graphic design and artistic shenanigans. Of note was covering a breakfast-in-bed tea tray with pages from JK Rowling’s books. Also, several directional signs were made to guide self-paced activity stations.

Lastly, as a bonus, here is a picture of the set of magnets I made out of online-obtained images after seeing Harry Potter and The Cursed Child.
